| There is a humbling element to cultivating a vineyard that has always appealed to winemaker David Johnson. Originally an accomplished amateur winemaker, his passion for wine eventually loured him away from his day job of running a gourmet food shoppe and led him into the vineyards of Niagara.
Featherstone is owned and operated by David Johnson and Louise Engel, a husband and wife team who come to the wine industry from careers dedicated to excellence in food and a passion for wine. Featherstone is a 23-acre vineyard perched on the brow of the Niagara escarpment and has distinguished itself in Niagara by being completely insecticide-free since 1999. David crafts balanced, elegant wines that are true to their varietal characteristics and pointedly food-oriented. The wines, like the owners, are friendly and approachable and the personal ambience at this small winery is warm and welcoming. The tasting room is attached to the back of their farmhouse and in the summer a seat on the wrap-around verandah offers stunning views of the surrounding vineyard.
